Rajeev Shukla calls out AI-manipulated video after Shoaib Malik shares deepfake on Pakistan TV show

Raising alarm over the growing threat of AI-generated deepfakes, Rajeev Shukla highlighted how fake videos and manipulated speeches are becoming a serious danger to democracy, reputation, and social harmony. Referring to a recent personal incident where foreign media allegedly altered his speech, the MP warned that modern AI tools now allow anyone to replicate a person’s face, voice, and emotions with disturbing accuracy. He said deepfakes are being used to spread political misinformation, target women through morphed images, and inflame social tensions, especially during elections. The biggest concern, he noted, is the speed at which fake videos go viral, while detection and corrective action remain slow and ineffective. Calling it not just “digital mischief” but a direct threat to democratic trust, he urged the government to establish a national AI deepfake monitoring agency, enforce watermarking and disclosure rules for platforms, strengthen laws against AI crimes targeting women, and launch a nationwide digital awareness campaign.
