Piyush Goyal leads India’s lone stand against WTO’s China-driven investment push

India has blocked the China-backed Investment Facilitation for Development, or IFD, pact from being folded into the WTO framework at MC14 in Yaoundé, emerging as the lone major holdout after other countries dropped their objections. New Delhi argues that bringing the plurilateral deal into the WTO’s legal architecture would exceed the body’s mandate and weaken its consensus-based system.
