Quick victory promises exposed as trump questions Hegseth & Caine’s performance

U.S. President Donald Trump has reportedly questioned the performance of Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth and General Dan Caine as scrutiny grows over the administration’s assessment of the war against Iran. According to The Atlantic, two outside advisers said Trump had asked people in his circle for their views on the performance of the Pentagon’s top leaders. The questions came as the president reviewed advisers who had predicted a quick and decisive victory. People close to Trump reportedly accused Hegseth of presenting an overly optimistic picture of the war’s progress. The Pentagon rejected the allegation, saying Hegseth had provided Trump with the “full operational picture” of the conflict. Hegseth and Caine also presented military options to Trump and Vice President JD Vance during a White House meeting last week. The White House said Trump had “full confidence” in both officials.
