After a lull of 16 days, violence re-ignited in Manipur after rioters opened unprovoked firing near Imphal. The clashes between the rioters and the Indian Army resulted in three deaths. Over 100 people have died so far in the ethnic clashes that were triggered on May 3. Today, Chief Minister N Biren Singh also planned to resign in wake of the new violence but made a u-turn after a mob blocked his way to the governor's office.
