Para-Badminton player Suhas Lalinakere Yathiraj talks about the difference in funds for Olympians and Paralympians. Suhas said, “prize money by the government does not differentiate for Olympians and para-Olympians. Differentiation is made in the corporate sector. Benefits announced by private sector to the Olympians but not for para Olympians.” “For elite athletes, there is no problem whether it is able-body sports of para-sports. The real challenge is for those who have not reached the elite level,” Suhas added. In the full interview with Hindustan Times, Suhas also opened up about his experience growing up as a differently-abled person. Suhas won a silver medal in badminton at the Tokyo Paralympics 2020. The 38-year-old Noida district magistrate became the first-ever IAS officer to win a medal at the Paralympics. Watch the full video for more details.
