India's Lovlina Borgohain settled for bronze after losing semifinal in Tokyo Olympics. Lovlina was defeated by Turkey's Busenaz Surmeneli in women's welterweight (64-69kg). The Indian lost 0-5 by unanimous decision to the current world champion boxer. PM Modi took to Twitter and congratulated her. This is India's third medal of the Tokyo Olympics after Mirabai's silver and Sindhu's bronze. Lovlina also becomes only the third Indian boxer to win a medal at the Olympics. Mary Kom, Vijender Singh clinched bronze at 2008 Beijing & Olympics 2012 London Olympics. Lovlina is the first-ever woman from Assam to take part at the Olympics. The bronze medalist battled against the wretched Covid-19 in October 2020.
