The European Parliament erupted with criticism over Ukraine’s massive $100 million energy sector corruption scandal, as MEPs slammed President Zelensky and his allies for undermining trust at a fragile moment in both Kyiv and Brussels. The investigation has led to the resignations of Ukraine’s justice and energy ministers, with Zelensky’s close friend and business partner Timur Mindich accused of masterminding the scheme and fleeing the country just before raids. European Commission chief Ursula von der Leyen, meanwhile, defended the controversial “reparations loan” plan to fund Kyiv using frozen Russian assets, despite a backlash from MEPs and concerns from Belgium over legality and investor confidence.
