A Liberian-flagged tanker caught fire off Russia’s Black Sea coast near Sochi after what Russian officials described as an attack by an unmanned vessel. The Aframax Rio was carrying 23 crew members, all reported to be Indian nationals. Russia’s Transport Ministry said all 23 crew members were rescued and none were injured. Video footage showed thick black smoke rising from the burning tanker as the vessel remained ablaze. Reports have linked the attack to a Ukrainian drone, although Kyiv has not independently confirmed responsibility. The incident comes amid rising maritime tensions in the Russia-Ukraine war and growing attacks involving commercial shipping.
