Uncertain future: Will the snow leopard survive?

Updated on Feb 09, 2018 06:02 pm IST

Kyrgyzstan has a rehab centre, set up by the German conservation group -Nature and Biodiversity Conservation Union, NABU, which takes care of and rehabilitate injured snow leopards in the wild. The feline is native to rugged mountain terrain and it's natural habitat spans from Himalayas in India to Central Asia and Southern Siberia. According to some estimates, only 4,000 remain in the wild. Loss of habitat and natural prey, human-animal conflict, climate change and poaching are the dangers the snow leopard continues to face across its native range. In the last four years, the Kygyrz government has been making a concerted effort to revive its dwindling population of snow leopards.
