Allegations of political "horse-trading" have triggered a major controversy in Tamil Nadu after the ruling TVK, led by Chief Minister Vijay, accused the opposition DMK of attempting to poach its MLAs. The row erupted after TVK MLA N Elaiyaraja alleged he was offered ₹35 crore to vote in a particular manner during a proposed resolution against the Speaker of the Tamil Nadu Assembly. The MLA also claimed he received threats after rejecting the offer. Acting on the complaint, Chennai Police registered a case and arrested two individuals, while the DMK has denied the allegations and hit back with counter-charges.
