After fleeing to UAE, Ashraf Ghani says he's 'in talks to return' to Afghanistan

- After fleeing Kabul, Afghanistan’s former president says he’s currently ‘in talks to return’. Ghani is currently in UAE with his family, emirates govt confirmed. UAE said it was hosting Ghani & his family on ‘humanitarian grounds’. Ghani had been receiving flak for ‘abandoning’ the people of Afghanistan. Ghani, his family & other diplomats fled from Kabul on Sunday after the Taliban's takeover. Taliban have won’, Ghani said in a Facebook post before leaving the country. He said he fled the war-torn Afghanistan to avoid ‘flood of bloodshed’. After he fled, the Taliban took over Afghanistan’s presidential palace. In his absence, former vice-president Amrullah Saleh declared himself as the caretaker president. Saleh called on anti-Taliban groups to join the resistance & said he hasn’t lost spirit.
