At stroke of midnight, Zohran Mamdani takes oath on Quran to become New York's 1st Muslim Mayor

Zohran Mamdani was sworn in as the new mayor of New York City during a historic ceremony held at a decommissioned Manhattan subway station. The 34-year-old Indian-origin Democrat became the first Muslim mayor of America’s largest city, taking his oath with his hand on the Quran. Administered by New York Attorney General Letitia James, the ceremony marked a symbolic beginning to Mamdani’s tenure. A larger public swearing-in at City Hall, to be conducted by Senator Bernie Sanders, is scheduled later in the day, followed by a celebratory block party in Manhattan.
