China mocks Quad ahead of mega summit in US. Derision to hide distress?

Hours before its meeting in Washington D.C., China has said that the four-member Quad grouping will find no support as its foreign ministry sniggered at the summit, which is often seen as a counter to China’s growing influence in the Indo-Pacific region. China said that it always believes that any regional cooperation mechanism should not target a third party or harm its interests. The high-profile summit will be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, his Australian and Japanese counterparts Scott Morrison and Yoshihide Suga and US President Joe Biden.
