China recently issued a white paper demanding that the next Dalai Lama be chosen with the approval of the Chinese government, citing ancient traditions. While the U.S. calls China’s interference a breach of religious freedom. India, where the Dalai Lama has been living for the past 60 years also wants a say in it.
