Numan Kurtulmus, speaker of the Grand National Assembly (the parliament) of Turkey, expressed eagerness to join the BRICS group. Speaking to Russian news agency TASS, Kurtulmus said "Turkey’s presence in BRICS will indeed make a much serious contribution to the cause of global peace." The statement came after Israel killed Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah on September 27, triggering a fresh wave of tensions in the region.
