The Emmanuel Macron government narrowly survived a vote of no-confidence which was triggered over the controversial pension reform. Had the no-confidence vote been successful, Macron would have had to name a new government or call a new election. Now, the controversial bill to raise the retirement age will become a law. The no-confidence vote was held after French PM Elizabeth Borne used special constitutional power to push the bill through without a vote last week. Meanwhile, protests have escalated across France and the capital city Paris remains on the edge.
