Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto has accused the European Union of undermining U.S. President Donald Trump’s attempts to broker peace in Ukraine, saying the bloc has “isolated itself” and lost influence in global politics and the world economy. In a strongly worded statement, Szijjarto alleged that EU leaders effectively tried to block a potential peace deal by escorting Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to Washington to ensure no agreement was reached. He argued that, had European leaders not acted this way, peace in Ukraine “could have already been established,” and contrasted their approach with Hungary’s, noting that his country has refused to send weapons to Kyiv and has consistently called for negotiations over escalation.
