Iran debuts Sayyad‑3G naval SAM, boosting long‑range air defense at sea

Iran has unveiled and successfully tested its newest naval air defense missile, the Sayyad-3G, marking a major step forward in maritime defense capabilities in the Strait of Hormuz. The February 20 test represents Iran’s first vertical-launch, long-range surface-to-air missile deployed from an indigenous naval platform, specifically aboard Shahid Soleimani-class vessels. With a reported range of up to 150 km and engagement altitudes reaching 27–30 km, the Sayyad-3G significantly expands Iran’s sea-based area-denial umbrella. Equipped with solid-fuel propulsion and advanced hybrid guidance systems, the missile is designed to intercept fighters, bombers, drones, cruise missiles, and patrol aircraft.
