Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva used his UN General Assembly address to push back against what he described as growing U.S. influence in Latin America, declaring that “Brazil is nobody’s backyard.” Lula rejected a greater U.S. military role in the region, while calling for cooperation against organised crime and asserting Brazil’s control over critical minerals and rare earths.
