Madagascar: Watch Diwali celebration by Indian community; Senate prez attend

The Indian community in Antananarivo, Madagascar celebrated Diwali with pomp and zeal. A string of cultural events were held to celebrate the auspicious festival. The embassy said India's rich cultural heritage was displayed during the occasion. In a statement, the embassy added that the event was attended by Madagascar Senate President among others. The programme began with lighting of lamps by the Senate President, ministers, ambassadors. Ministers of Agriculture and Public Security, Ambassadors of various countries, senior members of the Malagasy Government and members of the Indian diaspora also attended the event. Two short Diwali videos were also shown during the event followed by a fashion show and dance performances. Madagascar has a strong Indian community numbering about 17,500, mainly from Gujarat.
