Nepal after Sri Lanka? Clashes, firing in Kathmandu over hike in fuel prices

- Students protested against fuel price hikes in Nepal as a sign of growing discontent over rising inflation. Around 100 protesters from the All Nepal National Free Student Union (ANNFSU) clashed with cops. Police in Kathmandu fired teargas and charged at protesters with sticks to break up protests. ANNFSU is the student wing of the main opposition Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist). State-owned monopoly Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) on Monday raised the price of one litre of petrol and diesel by 12% and 16% respectively, prompting fears of broader price hikes.
