Cornered by Russia and Iran at the United Nations, the U.S. warned Tehran against targeting its forces in the Middle East in retaliation for airstrikes in Syria that killed 7 IRGC Quds Force members on April 1. Iran held Israel responsible for the attack on its embassy compound in Damascus.
