Setback for Ariha Shah's Parents; Berlin Court Gives Custody of Indian Baby to German State

Germany's Pankow local court granted baby Ariha Shah's custody to the German state while dismissing the parents' plea. The court emphasised that the 'best interests of the child are at risk'. This after the court said that the parents intentionally caused injuries to the child. 28-month-old Ariha suffered a head and back injury in April 2021 while she was being bathed and a genital injury in September 2021. The court states parental care was being denied to 'avert existing danger to the child'. The parents have appealed to the Indian government to bring their baby back home.
