U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that he’s withdrawing National Guard troops from Chicago, Portland and Los Angeles after facing major legal setbacks and court rulings that blocked or limited the deployments. The president framed the move as temporary and claimed the troop presence helped reduce crime, even warning federal forces might return “in a much different and stronger form” if crime surges again. City and state leaders, however, celebrated the decisions as victories against federal overreach, noting local efforts led to crime declines and courts refused to allow forced troop deployments.
