Watch | Babies thrown into water to teach them survival skills

Updated on Oct 04, 2016 04:51 pm IST

Babies as young as 6 months are being thrown into the water and left to recover and float to the surface, totally unaided! All this in a bid to teach them survival skills. Figures show, 321 people died in accidental drownings in the UK in 2015, including 32 children and youths. International Swimming Academy instructors and lifeguards Silvia Garcia and Miguel Jerez, have taught over 100 children in the last year. They have created a unique method combining the American Swim-Float-Swim sequence with their swimming experience to create an effective and safe program. While the footage may seem extreme, full unassisted emersion is only done once the baby or child has been taught the correct methods to be an independent swimmer.
