Watch | Mexico City raises green awareness with vertical gardens
Updated on Aug 16, 2016 12:12 pm IST
Mexico City has taken its urban ecology to new heights. They have launched an initiative called “via verde” or green way. This project will soon convert all the city pillars supporting flyovers and elevated roads into 'vertical gardens'. An effort to reduce pollution and also to improve the city's landscape. These gardens will be made on metal frames and cloth placed over the pillars. This will not only avoid damage to the pillars but also absorb rain water. The project aims to provide the city with an extra 40,000 metres of greenery to hopefully lift the air quality and the mood of the city's 20 million residents.
