Pakistan's Election Commission barred former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on December 3, from the January 8 general election because of his criminal record. But it did not rule out his party's participation in the vote. Sharif met another former prime minister and opposition leader, Benazir Bhutto. Potential candidate for prime ministership, Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi, addressing a press conference said that if he is elected as PM, Musharraf's influence would live on.
