Watch | Nepal still in ruins a year after devastating earthquake

Updated on Apr 27, 2016 03:46 pm IST

One year on, a 7.8-magnitude earthquake hit Nepal, leaving more than 8,000 people dead and countless towns and villages across the country in disorder.Twelve months on, much of that disorder remains. The country has made almost no progress in rebuilding hundreds of thousands of homes, schools and government buildings, as well as some 600 historical structures, including ancient Hindu and Buddhist temples, monuments and palaces. Nepal, facing an estimated 6.6 billion US dollar reconstruction bill, has received 4.1 billion US dollars in pledged donations so far. The problem, officials and aid workers say, is tangled bureaucracy and government malaise.
