While British-filmmaker Leslee Udwin's much talked about documentary, India's Daughter - based on the 2012 Delhi bus gangrape - got banned in India, another documentary - Daughters of Mother India - based on the same subject, won the National Film Award for Best Film on Social Issues in 2015. The film's director, Vibha Bakshi, believes that her film was openly accepted and appreciated by everyone because it didn't paint everyone with the same brush. "We didn't say, 'Oh, every man in this country is the same', and instead focused on how all of us are responsible for such incidents," she says, adding, "So the question of authorities being insensitive should not even come up. The support from authorities and the reaction from people proves that this was not the case. We are not a country of rapists and we didn't make the film with that hypothesis in mind."

Bakshi says she never expected to win the award. "I'm overwhelmed by the response. Both the government and the police supported us during the making of the film," she says.
