Trump spoke about the plan during a rally on Saturday evening. He said he was considering the Atlantic or Pacific Ocean and suggested names such as “Trump Ocean” or “Ocean of the Americas."

But there are two rives he will not rename: the Mississippi and the Hudson.

What did Trump say?

Trump announced that he wants to change the name of an ocean and a river before he leaves office in 2028.

Trump said he would not rename the Hudson River because he admires English explorer Henry Hudson, after whom it was named. He also said he would keep the Mississippi River's name, adding that he loves Mississippi, a state he has won in the last three elections.

What name does he have in mind?

Trump said he is thinking of renaming either the Atlantic or the Pacific.

He said “So we need a river and we need an ocean. So I was thinking either the Atlantic or the Pacific. We call it Trump Ocean, or Ocean of the Americas. Something like that.”

He added, “No, before I get out, I think we should have an ocean and we need a great river. Now, I’m not changing the name of the Mississippi. I love Mis. we won that state by so much.”

How did people react on X?

People on X had a lot to say about Trump’s comments.

One user wrote: “This is just pathetic. At a rally where he is supposed to be campaigning for GOP candidates, he of course only talks about himself.. the neediest most egotistical man on the planet. MAGA.. this is what I voted for...”

Another wrote, “Next president gets to rename this guy.”

One user joked: “Next he’s going to say “It will no longer be called EARTH. I declare it shall now be called PLANET TRUMP” and if you don’t follow that rule you are an enemy of the state. We live in the weirdest times ever.”

“Funny thing is that he’s not joking," wrote another.

Another wrote, “He treats everything so ridiculously!!!”

While another wrote, “How long until he tries to rename Washington DC to Trumpville?"

What has he renamed so far?

Hudson and Mississippi will not face the same fate as the Gulf of Mexico, as Trump renamed it the Gulf of America early in his second term.

This year, Trump also changed the name of Lake Ontario to Lake America. This came after a Canada-USA trade deal collapsed at the last minute. Google and Apple officially changed the name on their maps apps soon after.
