US President Donald Trump on Thursday said he disagreed with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer on the recognition of Palestine as a state.

“I have a disagreement with the Prime Minister on that score, one of our few disagreements, actually,” Trump said during a briefing after a bilateral meeting in UK. Trump is on a state visit to Britain, where he reaffirmed his ties with the country.

Trump also said that he wanted all the hostages taken in the October 7, 2023, attacks to be released.
The remark comes as Britain is expected to recognize Palestine as Israel has not met its conditions to commit to a ceasefire in Gaza. However, British officials are waiting until the conclusion of Trump’s state visit to avoid a political clash, Bloomberg News reported.
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer said that he and the American President "absolutely agree" on the need for an Israeli-Palestine peace roadmap, even as they differed on recognising Palestine.

The UK Prime Minister maintained that Hamas, the Palestinian militant group, can have no part in any future governance of Palestine.
Starmer called the recognition of Palestinian statehood “part of the overall package which hopefully takes us from the appalling situation we’re in now to the outcome of a safe and secure Israel, which we do not have, and a Palestinian state.”
Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is moving ahead with his long-awaited ground incursion into the Gaza City, a Hamas stronghold even as the country started strikes against Hezbollah targets in Lebanon.
Last week, the UN General Assembly voted 142-10 to support a two-state solution to the Israel-Palestinian conflict and urge Israel to commit to a Palestinian state. US had voted against the nonbinding resolution.
