A tornado was spotted by storm chasers near Union Lake, in Union City, in in Calhoun County, Michigan on Friday, amid the severe thunderstorm in the state. The National Weather Service confirmed that the tornado touched down at 4:48pm local time.
James Pettus, a social media meteorologist, reported that multiple people are unaccounted for in Union City amid the tornado. Storm chaser Ryan Hall shared a video of the tornado on X. The video showed a dirt-filled funnel in the tornado as it seemed to be carrying a lot of debris. Here's the video:

Another photo shared by Drew Brummel on X showed vehicles, trees and buildings in the aftermath of the tornado.
Michigan Storm Chasers, an X account, reported that there could be multiple fatalities as a result of the tornado. However, as of now, officials have not confirmed it.
Massive Power Outages In Calhoun County
Amid the tornado, there were massive power outages in Calhoun County. According to a local news outlet, Mlive, as of 5:30pm local time, more than 2,200 residents were without power in the region.
Consumers Energy, the largest electricity provider in the region, issued a statement on the power outages and the damage inflicted by the tornado.
“Our hearts are with our friends and neighbors who are affected by today’s tornado, and we will help the community any way we can,” the statement read. “We will be assessing damage and helping make repairs in the community. We continue to follow today’s severe weather conditions, with the prospect more storms could strike Michigan tomorrow.”
