At least 30 people were killed and 60 injured when a bus collided head-on with a large truck, 18 kms north of Bouake, say media reports.

The accident occurred on Wednesday morning on the highway linking Ivory Coast's Bouake and Katiola townships. The injured were taken to Bouake hospital for treatment.

The police have conducted an investigation into the cause of the accident. The bus passengers were coming to their ancestral home to celebrate the traditional Muslim festival of Eid.

In Ivory Coast, road accidents are common due to dilapidated road conditions.
