NEW DELHI: A Delhi traffic policeman was injured on Wednesday night when a speeding car hit him in Connaught Place. The errant car driver, identified as Sachin Kapoor, was later chased and nabbed by other traffic policemen and his car seized.

The injured traffic police constable was identified as Varun Kumar.

Kumar, in his complaint, said the incident took place when he was deployed for vehicle checking duty at Baba Kharak Singh Marg.

The rashly driven car approached their picket around 10pm and was signalled to stop.

“The driver first slowed down but then suddenly accelerated and hit me. When our zonal traffic officer tried to stop him, the driver tried to hit him as well but he managed to jump out of harm’s way. The e-challan machine he was carrying, however, was damaged after it came under the wheels of the car,” said the constable in his complaint. Other traffic cops then chased Kapoor’s car and stopped it a few meters ahead.
