The Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) unit of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) demands that the university’s central library should be renamed after BR Ambedkar.
The student outfit also demanded a statue of the architect of Indian Constitution on JNU campus.
Terming the demand as “ironical”, the left-backed students’ organisations said the ABVP and the BJP government had been attacking students pursuing “Ambedkarite politics” even as they try to appropriate Ambedkar.
April 14 is the 125th birth anniversary of Ambedkar.
“The JNU central library should be renamed as Ambdekar library and the premises should have a statue of the dalit rights activists,” said Saurabh Sharma, JNU students’ union joint secretary and the only ABVP member in the student union.
