Delhi recorded ‘poor’ air quality on Tuesday morning with the levels of fine particulate matter (PM 2.5) hovering between 200 and 300 in most stations.

Environmentalists, however, said that the levels are likely to come down during the day as the wind speed in many parts of the city remained high.

The PM 2.5 level at Pusa was recorded at 273 micrograms per cubic meter. It was 228 in Ayanagar and at Mathura Road, the level touched 208, according to the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR).

‘Poor’ air quality can cause health troubles to people with heart or lung disease. In such conditions, experts advise senior citizens and children to avoid prolonged or heavy exertion.

In Lodi Road and Dhirpur the levels remained ‘moderate’. In Lodi Road PM 2.5 levels remained 142 and in Dhirpur it reached 190.

“It is likely to remain fairly windy in the first half of the day and it will help blow away pollution particles,” a Met official said.
