The fifth edition of the Hindustan Times’ Most Stylish Awards saw the who’s who of Mumbai, dressed in their finest, walk the red carpet on Sunday (March 20) night. The ladies took the glamour quotient to the next level by opting for voluminous gowns and well-cut pantsuits, among other ensembles, and the gentlemen impressed in bright jackets and traditional bandhgalas.

Fashion’s latest trends were also on display on the red carpet — whether it was the classic side-swept hair, wavy-loose curls, thigh-high slits, and flowy skirts. Leading by example were Sonam Kapoor, Kalki Koechlin, Alia Bhatt, Parineeti Chopra and Katrina Kaif, to name a few. Redefining style on the red carpet, as always, was Ranveer Singh, who wore a bright red suit to the event and pulled it off with great élan. He made a grand entry, as he kicked open the door of his car, before breaking into an impromptu jig on the red carpet.

Through all this, a member of the actor’s team walked behind him with a laptop and boom box playing his music. Matching Ranveer’s energy was none other than Anil Kapoor, who joined the former on the red carpet, and showcased a few dance moves.

Sanjay Dutt and his wife, Manyata Dutt, got the loudest cheers. Fans clapped and whistled as the couple walked down the red carpet. On the other hand, a glamorous Katrina Kaif, dressed in an ivory gown, was seen hugging Alia Bhatt, as they both entered the event around the same time. While Katrina bagged the Hindustan Times’ Most Stylish Actress award, Alia was the winner of the Hindustan Times’ Readers Choice Most Stylish Actor Female trophy.

Among the television stars, Jennifer Winget made quite the fashion statement in her strapless gown. Sanjeeda Sheikh and Mouni Roy were dressed in silver and black, respectively. The three ladies, who are also known to be good friends, sat together at the event, and were seen indulging in animated conversations.

Sufi singer Kavita Seth’s opening musical act set the tempo for the night, while the host, Karan Johar, enthralled the audience with his innumerable jokes. Karan left the audience in splits, as he revealed Shah Rukh’s limited wardrobe options, and that Varun Dhawan wears “nothing” at home. Singer Shalmali Kholgade and saxophone player Rhys Sebastian gave the night a retro feel, as they performed songs like ‘Mera naam chin chin choo’ and ‘Aaiye meherbaan’.

There was no dearth of memorable moments on stage. In his acceptance speech, Shah Rukh Khan (recipient of the Hindustan Times’ Most Stylish Global Style Icon award) thanked actors like Dharmendra, Anil Kapoor, Amitabh Bachchan and Kabir Bedi, for inspiring him, and mimicked dialogues from each of their films. Rekha (recipient of the Hindustan Times’ Most Stylish Timeless Style Diva award) looked ravishing in a stunning kanjivaram sari, as she accepted the award. Dharmendra (recipient of the Hindustan Times’ Most Stylish Lifetime Style Icon award) had the audience in splits with his acceptance speech.

Sanjay Dutt (recipient of the Hindustan Times’ Special Award for the Original Style Icon) received a lot of love not just from the audience, but from the film fraternity as well. We spotted Sanjay and Anil hugging each other and rapt in deep conversation. Interestingly, we also spotted Dutt pulling Athiya Shetty’s (recipient of the Hindustan Times’ Most Stylish Newcomer Award) cheeks, as the latter went up to greet him.
