Who says layering business has no takers when the temperature rises? With some imagination, you can spice up even the most drab look with chic summer jackets. Whether you toughen up your flowy maxi with a faux leather jacket or glam up your jeans-tee combo with a floor-grazing version, there are myriad ways to style this fashion staple.
While printed and floral versions continue to remain in trend over the spring season, single tone suit separates in pop hues are the flavour of the moment. Want to ace the trend? You can pick up ample style inspiration from Bollywood divas to rock the style.
Get it right
From crop jackets to floor-grazing capes, experiment with varying lengths. Be it denims, faux leather or cotton, try your hand at different fabrics.
Invest in the right jacket according to your figure. If you’re heavy on the top i.e. apple figured, go for slim-cut, waist-length structured jackets to balance out your figure. Those with a lean figure, can go for fitted, cropped versions to create the illusion of curves. Clinched at the waist or belted ones will work best. Pear shaped or those with heavy bottoms, should go for jackets that accentuate the waist, to throw off the attention from the lower body.
Long jackets create an illusion of height, making you look taller than usual. Wear with jeans, maxis or short dresses. While actors Deepika Padukone and Kareena Kapoor paired theirs with skinny denims, actor Mugdha Godse teamed hers with a long dress.
Show off some skin without being under the glare by paring your crop tops and bralets with short jackets. Actors Kangana Ranaut, Aditi Rao Hydari and Kriti Sanon gave us their interesting interpretation of the trend.
Smarten up your casual dress in a jiffy by pairing your dresses with jackets. While actors Dia Mirza and Alia Bhatt went the casual way, actor Sonam Kapoor gave us an all-black formal look.
Maxi-mise your style by wearing a faux leather jacket over your feminine maxi for a grunge-meets-sexy look. Actors Aditi Rao Hydari, Sonam Kapoor and Athiya Shetty teamed up their printed maxis with short jackets.
We have been raving about suit separates long enough for you to know they will continue to be in vogue. You can go actor Esha Gupta’s way and rock a single-tone pantsuit or go for formal shorts like actor Parineeti Chopra. We love the red cape jacket and pants combo seen on actor Deepika Padukone.
