Thirty four people, including 32 students, a school teacher and a driver, were injured as the bus (HP-31-8263) they were travelling in overturned and rolled down a 100-ft gorge at Dehar area Mandi district on Friday.
The incident occurred at around 8.15am, when the bus, carrying students of Vivekanada Public School (VPS), Dehar, reportedly tried to overtake another vehicle but the driver lost control over the vehicle.
Locals at spot carried the injured in private vehicles to primary health centre at Dehar but there was no doctor available.
Upon finding that there were no doctors available at the PHC, people took to sloganeering against the government and the administration.
Later, the injured were shifted to the civil hospital in Sundernagar from where the female teacher and four students, who were critically injured, were shifted to the zonal hospital in Mandi
A local resident claimed that the poor condition of the road due to Kirtpur-Manali four laning construction was also a reason for the accident.
Sub-divisional magistrate Rajeev Kumar and deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Sundernagar Sanjeev Bhatia reached the spot and inspected rescue operation.
Tehsildar Sundernagar Ved Prakash remained present at civil hospital Sundernagar and provided financial aid to the victims for the purchasing of medicine etc.
