11 killed in bus-autorickshaw collision in Bihar’s Vaishali district
Nine autorickshaw passengers, travelling to Goraul from Hajipur, died on the spot after the three-wheeler was hit by a speeding bus in Bihar’s Vaishali district. Two other persons succumbed to their injuries during treatment in the hospital.
At least 11 persons were killed when an autorickshaw was hit by a speeding bus in Bihar’s Vaishali district on Tuesday.
The accident took place on national highway (NH)-77 near Sarai Bazar, 32 km north of Patna, when a Sitamarhi-bound bus rammed into the autorickshaw carrying 12 persons.
Vaishali superintendent of police Rakesh Kumar said nine autorickshaw passengers, travelling to Goraul from Hajipur, died on the spot, while two others succumbed to their injuries in the hospital. Three injured persons, including the bus driver and a bus passenger, were undergoing treatment at a Hajipur hospital, about 15 km from the accident site, the SP said.
Those killed have been identified as Sanjay Singh , Manju Singh, Gyan Prakash Singh, Mohhmamad Satar, his wife Sakila Begum, Jasomati Devi, Lakhendra Rai, Pramila Devi, Rajmati Devi, Asha Devi, and a seven-month old child Aditya Raj.
Angry over the accident, villagers blocked the highway and demanded compensation for the victims’ families. The blockade was cleared after Vaishali district magistrate Rachna Patil and the SP assured all assistance to the families of victims.
Chief minister Nitish Kumar, meanwhile, has expressed shock over the accident and announced a compensation of Rs 4 lakh each to the families of the victims.
