The police killed two criminals in Pune district in an encounter on a hill near Chakan, 30 kms away from Pune, on Tuesday morning.

According to the police, Shyam Dabate and Dhananjay Shinde were wanted in serious crimes like murder, extortion, robbery and kidnapping in Pune rural.

More than a dozen crimes have been registered against Dabate alone, said the police.

The police received a tip-off about Dabate and Shinde hiding near a wind mill on a hill near Chakan. The police surrounded the hill and asked the duo to surrender.

“However, they refused to do so and opened fire with country-made revolvers. We then fired six rounds, killing the duo on the spot,” said a police officer.
