TB patient strangles daughter, hangs self from ceiling in Mumbai

The woman, Shamal Khale,31, was under depression owing to her prolonged illness, said police. Her daughter, Ishwari Khale,a Class 1 student, was alone at home when the incident took place.

A 31-year-old woman, who was suffering from tuberculosis since 2013, allegedly strangled her six-year-old daughter and later hanged herself from the ceiling at her home in Badlapur near Mumbai on Monday.

The woman, Shamal Khale,31, was under depression owing to her prolonged illness, said police. Her daughter, Ishwari Khale,a Class 1 student, was alone at home when the incident took place.

Shamal’s husband , Mahesh, 37, works as a technician at Bombay hospital.

On Monday evening, when Ishwari was playing downstairs , Shamal called her inside and locked the door.

D Rajbhoj, senior police inspector, Badlapur police station, said, “The incident came to light when Mahesh came home. He opened the door with the help of neighbours . We have lodged an accidental death case.”
