Bollywood singer Shreya Ghoshal thinks Sanjay Leela Bhansali will not be deterred by the violence he faced on the sets of Padmavati recently.

Singer Shreya Ghoshal’s association with filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali has only grown stronger over the course of 15 years. The 32-year-old singer made her singing debut in Bollywood with Bhansali’s Devdas, and will be singing four songs in his next film, Padmavati starring Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor.

To take a complete unknown singer, a 17-year-old singer for a project like that spoke volumes of the amount of trust he had in me.

The film recently came under the scanner and Bhansali was slapped and assaulted in Jaipur by a fringe group on the sets. Shreya called it a “horrifying incident”.

Defending him, she had tweeted, “Disgusted horrified! Gundaraj running the country? Appalled beyond words with wht happened w/ #SanjayLeelaBhansali sir. Can’t believe my eyes. Where is Rajasthan police!! Shame!! What is being done about this?? What’s the point of living in a democracy!”

Shreya says that her association with the filmmaker has been wonderful and he is her mentor . “Once he knows what he wants, he will do whatever it takes to complete that project. There is something about him and his confidence, that makes everyone associated with his project really comfortable. We have worked together on so many films after Devdas, and my respect for him and his belief has only grown. He is not only my mentor, but a very good friend as well,” she says.

There is something about him and his confidence, that makes everyone associated with his project really comfortable.

The singer owes a lot to the 53-year-old filmmaker. “Devdas was one of the most awaited films, and to take a complete unknown singer, a 17-year-old singer for a project like that spoke volumes of the amount of trust he had in me. It takes a lot of guts and conviction to do that. At a time, when there was opposition from all sides about me, he fought for me. I will never ever forget that,” says Shreya.

“He was really confident about me, and I was really scared. But I guess unki nazar mein main thi, which is why he decided to choose me for that film. Literally, I was his prodigy, and in all these 15 years our bond has only grown stronger,” she adds.
