Accused of harassing girl, Moga boy kills self; her parents booked

The incident occurred on July 22 and deceased has been identified as Baru Singh, resident of Rasoolpur. On the statement of boy’s father Pritpal Singh, police on Tuesday booked the girl and her family members under section 306 (abetment to suicide) of the Indian Penal Code.

After a complaint of harassment by parents of a girl, a 14-year-old boy committed suicide by jumping into a canal near Rasoolpur in Moga. The incident occurred on July 22 and deceased has been identified as Baru Singh, resident of Rasoolpur. On the statement of boy’s father Pritpal Singh, police on Tuesday booked the girl and her family members under section 306 (abetment to suicide) of the Indian Penal Code.

Assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Sukhdev Singh, who is the investigation officer, said the parents of the boy had brought his body to the police station. Pritpal alleged that his son took the step after the parents of the girl went came to his house and complained that he was harassing their 15-year-old daughter.

The ASI said the autopsy has been conducted and they are waiting for the report.
