Burail model jail has put special arrangements in place for the Muslim inmates observing Roza, the down-to-dusk fast during the holy month of Ramzan, which commenced on May 27.
The jail houses 500 inmates, out of which 20 odd inmates are observing Roza. Respecting the religious beliefs, these 20-odd inmates have been shifted to one barrack.
Ramzan is the holiest month for Muslims that is marked by fasting. It aims at exercising self-restraint that commands Muslims observing Roza to abstain from food and water from sunrise to sunset. “We have all the arrangements in place for inmates observing Roza. Timings for their eating anything is different than normal timings, but we have made changes to the meal schedule for them ”said SKJain jails.
Arrangements have been made for inmates to perform prayers and enjoy their (pre-dawn meal) and (evening meal). The Roza as a ritual starts with before dawn and ends with where those dusk.
Food items like seasonal fruits, dates, milk and various other snacks are being made available to them, said jail authorities. Authorities have even earmarked an area where these inmates can offer namaaz the inmates who are observing Roza do not even take water, the jail authorities do not take any work from these inmates for complete one month. “Although if someone volunteers for work, they are not stopped,” added Jain.
