‘Molesters’ kill grandma of Tarn Taran man who confronted them

A woman, Ajit Kaur (60), was killed and 16 people of her family injured on Monday after some villagers who were stopped from molesting a girl raided a protester’s house, later, with guns and swords at Rajoke in Khalra police jurisdiction.

Complainant Buta Singh of Rajoke told police that in the village fair, the attackers had first molested the sister of one of his friends. “When I restrained them, they fled to their homes. It was around 5.30pm,” he said. “At 6.30pm, they suddenly appeared outside my house and started challenging my family.”

He says they barged into his house and began firing at his family and attacking them with swords. “As they hit my grandmother, Ajit Kaur, she died on the spot,” he said, “while other members of my family had to be hospitalised.” Buta Singh is a Dalit
