The robbery reported by a Baghapurana-based rice broker claiming that two armed men robbed him of Rs 22 lakh at his office on Sunday turned out to be a mere story concocted by him.

The Moga police on Wednesday claimed to have solved the robbery case within two days and booked the rice broker identified as Rajinder Bansal, a resident of Baghapurana under Section 182 of the CrPC for giving false information to the police.

Cops said they got suspicious when the complainant failed to give satisfactory answers and records of cash. They said later he admitted to have given false information and told them that the robbers looted the money on the pretext that his son was in their custody. Bansal told the police that he had to give a payment of Rs 30 lakh to a Delhi-based trader but he was not able to arrange the cash. So he make a fabricated tale to show the trader that he had arranged the money but was looted.
