UT municipal corporation polls : Congress picks all 26 candidates; faces dissent

With the Congress finally announcing its candidates for all 26 wards from where councillors are to be elected on December 18, it will be a battle for heavyweights in ward 16 (Sectors 20, 33). Here, two-time mayor and sitting councillor Subhash Chawla of the Congress is pitted against three-time BJP councillor Rajesh Gupta.

With the Congress finally announcing its candidates for all 26 wards from where councillors are to be elected on December 18, it will be a battle for heavyweights in ward 16 (Sectors 20, 33). Here, two-time mayor and sitting councillor Subhash Chawla of the Congress is pitted against three-time BJP councillor Rajesh Gupta.

In ward 10 (Sectors 41 and 42), the Congress has fielded Jasbir Singh Bunty and Hardeep Singh, the sitting councillor of the Shiromani Akali Dal (who will contest again).

Builder gets ticket again from ward 22
After the intervention of the Congress high command, the party has again given ticket to Sandeep Bhardwaj from ward 22 (Sectors 31, 47 and 48). The local unit had cancelled his ticket on Saturday, but on Sunday, it was again decided to retain his candidature. The party also fielded Nasrulla Khan, a muslim candidate from ward 24 (Manimajra).
