Amit Verma

Amit Verma is the Chief Technology Officer at HT Digital Streams, the digital arm of the Hindustan Times Group, where he leads engineering, data, and platform initiatives for Hindustan Times, Mint, Live Hindustan, and the group’s consumer applications.

His current focus is the practical application of Generative and Agentic AI across news, search, recommendations, and fintech. In his tenure, HT Digital has built a unified Customer Data Platform, modernised cloud workflows, and adopted agent-driven software development at scale — with more than 90% of new code now generated by AI agents, while engineers focus on review, architecture, and integration.

Before joining HT, Amit was an engineering leader at Microsoft, where he led the Search, Discovery, and Playlists teams for Microsoft Stream, helping drive video engagement for over 50 million monthly active users across Microsoft 365.

Prior to Microsoft, he led the Payment Gateway team at Paytm during the company’s hypergrowth phase. He oversaw the platform’s migration from a monolith to microservices architecture, scaled systems through a 10x traffic increase, and delivered 99.99% availability for one of India’s most heavily used payment platforms.
