The Datia police have busted a gun making factory being operated in the jungles bordering Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday and arrested two persons in this connection. Datia is around 400 km north of Bhopal.

SP Mayank Avasthi said that acting on information they raided the factory near village Gharava and Mukesh Kewat (24) and Madan Dhimar (26) and seized two .315 bore guns, 16 country made guns, seven semi-finished country made guns, eight empty cartridges and 10 live cartridges, and 17 frames for making guns.

SP Avasthi said during interrogation the two accused confessed that there were part of an inter-state gang and they used to supply weapons to several gangs in both Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. “The accused have named several people who are gun runners and the gangs to which they supplied the weapons. More arrests are likely,” the SP added.

The police administration has launched a campaign against illegal arms in the area to curb crime in the area. Datia is infamous for illegal mining and illegal arms are used in large scale in both sides of the border, police sources said.
